Compass and mapAre you interested in the world around you? Do you want to make informed decisions on issues about the natural and man made world? Do you want to know why coastlines change? Why Volcanoes erupt? Or why HIV/Aids is spreading? Have you ever wondered about why populations are so varied? Or why some countries never seem to get richer?

Why Study Geography

BridgeAs well as being a contemporary and exciting subject, Geography is a useful qualification for many reasons. As a subject it is highly valued by employers from all areas of work. The wide variety of transferable skills, abilities and attitudes to independent learning that are developed through geographical study make geographers attractive to employers.

Geography is one of the only subjects that still offers the opportunity to get out of the classroom and put skills into practice through fieldwork. There is scope through the variety of topics studied for human or physical practical work.

Finally, it links well with a broad range of subjects across the sciences, languages and humanities, often providing a good basis for many other subjects at A level and beyond.

What You Will Learn

LearningThe course covers a broad range of topics both human and physical and to reflect this diversity and to allow a greater breadth of study, you and your peers will decide the pathway through the course.

If this knowledge is not enough, you will also develop skills of interpretation, analysis and enquiry. For example you will draw choropleth maps, produce graphical forms of data, use ICT to present data gained through fieldwork, and most importantly develop problem solving skills especially by considering the attitudes and values of individuals in the decision making process.
